Attend the Used Motor Oil Collection Event and Receive Free Gifts

LOS ANGELES – The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works will kick-off the 2006 Recycle Oil and Filter Program with a Used Oil Collection Event in Rowland Heights. The program is made possible by a grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board, and is sponsored by Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Rowland Water District and Three Valleys Municipal Water District, which will be providing participants with information and promotional materials on water conservation at the event. Participants who bring in used oil and oil filters will also be awarded with a free gift.

You’ve changed the oil; now do the next step….bring it back to receive free gifts and useful information on water conservation!

Just follow these simple steps to participate in our collection event:

  • Put your used motor oil in a sealed, leak-proof container.
  • Come to our collection event at Rowland Heights Jiffy Lube on August 26, 2006 from 10 a.m. to noon. (Parking available inside Hong Kong Supermarket Plaza)
  • Fill out a simple survey form.
  • Return your survey form to our staff to claim your free gifts.

Please note:

  • Do not mix oil with gasoline, automotive liquids, other liquids or debris. This contamination makes it hazardous and not recyclable.
  • Do not bring other automotive fluids. They can be disposed of free at any Household Hazardous Waste/E-Waste Recycling collection center. (Please visit www.888CleanLA.com for details.)
  • Do not recycle more than five gallons at a time.

Saturday, August 26, 2006, 9AM to 11AM

New motor oil, used oil collection containers, along with other items such as shop towels and funnels, will be given away at each event to people who bring in four or more quarts of used oil and oil filters. There will be a raffle with a grand prize of a 4 day 3 night VIP trip to Las Vegas, and other great prizes such as restaurant gift certificates.

Event: Asian American Environmental Symposium 2006

We invite you to attend and/or sponsor our inaugural symposium on issues and trends in the environmental field! The symposium will provide a unique opportunity for exposure, especially to future environmental professionals who are exploring available opportunities. We are especially focused on attracting the next generation of leaders through a special emphasis and outreach to college students, including Asian American students in environmental academic fields. We are planning sessions at which the best experts will share from their knowledge and experience. Our aim is to focus on the highly relevant and pressing issues of our day, especially dealing with water, land, and energy issues. A unique component of our program will focus on China’s environmental challenges and spotlight the collaborative efforts and exchanges taking place between this region and China. We are inviting students and professionals from around the Southern California area. It will be held at UCLA’s Institute of the Environment in order to spotlight the newly opened LaKretz hall, a landmark facility utilizing the latest in Green Building techniques and holding a LEED certification.
